What are Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges can be utilised where implants cannot physically be placed for instance if there is not enough bone, or there are some medical conditions which would advise against implant treatment.

Bridges can also be used as a temporary measure if implants are to be considered in the future.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a bridge and a crown?
A dental bridge is an artificial tooth placed where a tooth is missing. This artificial tooth is then attached to the teeth either side. A crown is used to restore the strength and function of a tooth which has lost its tooth structure, has become weak or is liable to fracture.
Are bridges better at replacing teeth than implants?
Dental implants are the gold standard choice when replacing a missing tooth. However, bridges can be a useful alternative in the meantime whilst the area is healing for implants. In addition, they have been proven to be a very useful alternative for patients who cannot have implants due to financial, medical or personal reasons.
I have a missing tooth, do I need to replace the space?
Not always, but quite often missing teeth can cause the adjacent teeth to over-erupt and drift, this can make the teeth tip, lead to oral hygiene and bite problems. Whilst this should be monitored with your dentist regularly, replacing a missing tooth should be considered, along with the risks of not having it replaced.
